Jagan gave wrong phone number, CBI tells court

In an interesting development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a fresh petition before the CBI Special Court in Hyderabad, accusing YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy of violating court-imposed conditions during his ongoing foreign tour.

The CBI has requested the court to revoke Jagan’s travel permission, granted earlier this month for his Europe visit, citing non-compliance with mandatory reporting norms.

As per the bail conditions, Jagan was required to submit his personal phone number, email ID, and complete travel itinerary before departure.

However, the CBI alleged that Jagan had submitted an alternate number instead of his personal contact, terming it a breach of conditions. Readmore!

The court had allowed Jagan to travel to Europe between October 1 and October 30 for 15 days to visit his daughters, on the assurance that he would return and personally appear before the court thereafter.

The permission was granted with strict monitoring clauses.

According to court records, Jagan departed for Europe on October 11 after securing the necessary clearance.

His counsel had earlier assured the bench that the former CM had never violated any court condition, but the CBI’s latest submission contradicts that claim.

The agency’s plea now seeks cancellation of his travel approval, stating that the submission of incorrect contact information constitutes “wilful non-compliance.”

The special court has directed Jagan’s counsel to file a counter.
