The controversy surrounding filmmaker SS Rajamouli has escalated, with Telangana MLA T Raja Singh becoming the latest political voice to criticise the director.
Known for his strong positions on religious issues, Raja Singh accused Rajamouli of “double standards” and urged him to clearly state whether he is an atheist instead of giving ambiguous answers.
Speaking to the media, Raja Singh said that if Rajamouli does not believe in God, he should say so openly rather than “beating around the bush” in interviews.
He went further, calling on Hindus to boycott Rajamouli’s films entirely.
According to him, the director has gained massive commercial success by making films rooted in Hindu mythology while simultaneously distancing himself from religion in public discussions.
Raja Singh also demanded an apology from the filmmaker and questioned whether Rajamouli’s comments were made simply to promote his upcoming film Varanasi.
He argued that someone who profits from culturally significant stories should not send mixed signals about faith.
His remarks come at a time when Rajamouli is already facing online criticism for past statements on mythology, religion and cinema.
This renewed attack has intensified a larger debate about whether filmmakers owe ideological transparency to their audience, especially when their work draws heavily from cultural and religious themes.
Rajamouli, who rarely responds to political controversies, has not commented on Raja Singh’s remarks.
With the issue gaining momentum on social media, the director may face continued pressure in the coming days as supporters and critics clash over artistic freedom, personal belief and cultural responsibility.
