After trying his luck with politics for over nearly six years, retired IPS officer and former joint director of Central Bureau of Investigation V V Lakshminarayana appears to have quit politics; and even his so-called social service activities.
Lakshminarayana formally joined as vice-president (operations) of Evey Trans Private Limited, a subsidiary of prominent infrastructure company Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL).
The company issued a statement on Sunday announcing the appointment of Lakshimnarayana.
It said his expertise in governance frameworks, large-scale operational execution, and institutional strengthening will play a pivotal role in advancing our operational excellence and organizational capabilities.
Widely known as “JD Lakshminarayana,” the retired IPS officer earned national prominence during his tenure as CBI Joint Director in Andhra Pradesh nearly 15 years ago.
Among the most prominent cases he handled were the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case and the disproportionate assets case against Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
His aggressive and methodical approach to these investigations, including the arrest of mining baron and politician Gali Janardhan Reddy and later Jagan Mohan Reddy, drew national attention.
After a distinguished career in law enforcement, Lakshminarayana opted for voluntary retirement in 2018 and entered active politics.
In 2019, he joined the Jana Sena Party and contested the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat but was defeated.
Differences with party leadership led to his exit within a year. Though he considered joining the Bharatiya Janata Party, the move did not materialise.
Seeking an independent political platform, he founded the Jai Bharat National Party in December 2023 and contested the 2024 assembly elections from Visakhapatnam North.
However, the party failed to make any electoral impact, and Lakshminarayana himself suffered a heavy defeat, polling fewer than 5,000 votes and forfeiting his deposit.
Alongside his political activities, he had established the Joint for Development Foundation, through which he undertook several social initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and youth.
With limited electoral success and mounting personal challenges, Lakshminarayana appears to have chosen to step back from frontline politics and resume a professional career in the private sector.
