At least eight children, aged between one and 14, were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, in what authorities described as a domestic-related incident.
The shooting took place around 6 a.m. on Sunday, with a total of 10 people reported to have been shot.
Police said the victims included young children, some of whom were believed to be related to the suspect. Two adult women were also injured in the incident.
The crime scene spanned multiple locations in the Cedar Grove area, making it one of the most extensive incidents local authorities have handled.
According to officials, the suspected gunman fled the scene after the shooting and later carjacked a vehicle. He was eventually shot dead by police following a chase into a neighbouring area.
“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Police Chief Wayne Smith said, as investigators continued to gather details.
Louisiana State Police have joined the investigation, and authorities are urging the public to share any information, photos, or videos that may help the probe.
The incident has shocked the community and is being described as one of the most tragic events in the region’s recent history.
