The stage is set for former YSR Congress Party general secretary and ex-Rajya Sabha member V Vijay Sai Reddy to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April, according to sources in New Delhi.
Sai Reddy had resigned from both his Rajya Sabha seat and the primary membership of the YSR Congress Party in January, stating at the time that he would not join any other political party and would instead focus on his agricultural ventures.
However, subsequent developments and his public statements have strongly hinted at a possible shift to the BJP.
His presence at the ceremonial reception for Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during his visit to Hyderabad, as well as his support for certain Modi government decisions, added further weight to the speculation.
Reports suggest that Sai Reddy has already held discussions with BJP leaders regarding his political future.
Although the BJP extended an invitation to him soon after his resignation, he initially sought time away from active politics, arguing that an immediate switch would not be appropriate. As a result, he has been delaying his formal entry into the party.
However, sources say his close associates have advised against prolonging his political hiatus.
“There’s a saying — ‘out of sight, out of mind.’ The longer Sai Reddy stays away from politics, the greater the risk of being forgotten,” a source noted.
There is also speculation that the Election Commission may announce by-elections for the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by Sai Reddy as early as April.
He is expected to join the BJP before the announcement, potentially positioning himself for renomination to the Upper House.
According to reports from New Delhi, Sai Reddy is likely to join the BJP sometime after the conclusion of the current Parliament session on April 4.
“Most likely, his joining will take place in the second week of April,” sources said.
