Andhra Pradesh TDP President and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao is reportedly facing a tricky situation regarding the GVMC mayor’s post.
With the YSRCP mayor currently in office, leaders from the TDP-led alliance are eager to replace her with someone from their camp to assert political dominance.
However, the current mayor, Hari Venkata Kumari, belongs to the Yadava community — and community leaders have warned there will be backlash if she is removed.
They’ve made it clear that if she is ousted, the mayor’s post must remain within the Yadava community. This demand is putting pressure on Palla Srinivasa Rao himself, who also belongs to the same community.
The alliance has already issued a no-confidence notice against the mayor. But now, 22 Yadava corporators within the alliance are reportedly demanding that the next mayor be chosen from among them.
Meanwhile, TDP leadership has already decided to offer the mayor’s post to a candidate from the Gavara community, which adds another layer of complication.
This has sparked debate over whether the Yadava corporators will support the no-confidence motion.
As the TDP state president and key leader in the alliance, the responsibility of securing the mayoral seat lies with Palla — leaving him caught in a political balancing act.
