The Centre is learnt to have expressed concern over the recent incidents of security lapses at the holy temple of Tirumala and asked the Chandrababu Naidu government to see that such incidents do not recur.
According to a letter written to the state government, in response to a complaint made by YSR Congress party MP from Tirupati Maddila Gurumoorthy, the Ministry of Home Affairs asked the state authorities to look into security lapses at the Tirumala temple.
Incidents like a mentally insane man creating ruckus at Alipiri, smuggling of non-vegetarian food on to the Tirumala hills and entering the Vaikuntham queue complex with footwear have clearly showed the lapses on the security on Tirumala hills.
In a letter dated April 17, 2025, the ministry forwarded the MP’s concerns to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. The letter requests the state government to examine the issue seriously.
The Union home ministry took note of the concerns raised and emphasized the importance of maintaining safety at one of India’s most visited and sacred pilgrimage centres.
The responsibility now lies with the state government to respond and take necessary action to improve security arrangements in Tirumala, the YSRCP said.
