The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that it is closely monitoring the situation before making a final decision on the continuation of IPL 2025, following rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
“We are reviewing the situation right now,” said IPL chairman Arun Dhumal in a statement to PTI. “It’s an evolving scenario. We haven’t received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping the best interests of all stakeholders in mind.”
The concerns were heightened after the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abruptly halted due to air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot.
The game, which had already been delayed due to rain, was stopped at 10.1 overs with Punjab at 122/1. What was initially thought to be a floodlight failure turned out to be part of a broader security concern.
Fans and players were evacuated from the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium as a precaution. The venue, with a capacity of about 23,000, was nearly 80% full at the time.
“There was no panic. The evacuation was handled smoothly,” a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association official confirmed.
Some spectators reportedly shouted anti-Pakistan slogans while leaving the premises.
When asked about the status of the next scheduled match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow, Dhumal said: “It is on as of now, but we are monitoring the developments.”
