Director Krish, known for addressing social issues through commercial cinema, is all set to deliver an adrenaline-pumping, female-centric action drama titled Ghaati, with Anushka Shetty playing the lead role.
In an exclusive interview with us, Krish shared intriguing insights about Ghaati. “It’s a full-on action entertainer centered around Anushka’s character and set against the backdrop of the Andhra-Odisha border. Like my previous films, it explores deep human emotions. It’s truly a paisa vasool entertainer,” he said.
The story was originally narrated to Krish by writer Chintakindi Srinivasa Rao. “He told me about the Ghaatis in the Eastern Ghats—people who trek with loads weighing 100 to 150 kg on their shoulders to transport goods. In our film, the character Sheelavathi transports ganja.”
He continued, “The writer initially gave me a 25-page story, and we developed it into a full screenplay. I had been wanting to do a female-centric film, and I was also keen to work with Anushka. She was interested in doing Saroja 2, but I told her it shouldn’t be touched. Ghaati is a larger-than-life story. Anushka is a true crowd-puller, and she fits this role perfectly. She looked incredibly convincing as the character.”
Expanding on the film’s theme, Krish added, “Those who make thousands of crores in business through the help of the Ghaatis often look down on them. The story revolves around the theme of identity vs. survival, which has worked really well for the film.”
Krish also made it clear that the film takes a socially responsible stance. “The movie does not glorify the use or trade of ganja in any way. Whatever film I make, I ensure it aligns with positive societal values. I never cross the line.”
The director also spoke about his upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu and other topics during the interview.
