The Andhra Pradesh government has disqualified YSR Congress party leader and Kadapa mayor Suresh Babu from his post, on the charges of doing contracts despite being a public servant.
The municipal administration department issued a notification to this effect on Wednesday after conducting a due inquiry into the complaint lodged by the local Telugu Desam Party MLA R Madhavi Reddy and concluded that allegations of conflict of interest against him were valid.
Madhavi Reddy alleged that Suresh Babu’s family members were involved in municipal civil contracts. A vigilance inquiry confirmed the charges and submitted its findings to the state government.
Based on this, the department served notices on Suresh Babu on March 24, 2025, and subsequently issued orders in May removing him from the mayor’s post.
He challenged the decision in the High Court, claiming he was deliberately targeted.
The court, however, directed the government to give him another opportunity to present his defence. On September 17, Suresh Babu presented his case before the secretary, municipal administration.
After reviewing the vigilance commission’s testimony, the department confirmed his removal.
The development has sparked political interest, with attention now turning to how YSRCP leaders will respond to the disqualification.
