The opposition YSR Congress party (YSRCP) on Saturday demanded that Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kamineni Srinivas tender an immediate apology in the assembly for his remarks against former chief minister and YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Party MLAs Tatiparthi Chandrasekhar, Busine Virupakshi, and Buchepalli Sivasprasad Reddy issued a joint statement stressing that seeking to remove his objectionable remarks from the assembly records was not sufficient.
The YSRCP leaders said Srinivas had deliberately made inappropriate comments against Jagan Mohan Reddy when he was not even present in the House.
They argued that simply requesting deletion from records would not erase the intent behind such remarks and insisted that only a public apology in the assembly would be appropriate.
The MLAs criticized coalition legislators for a pattern of speaking recklessly and later attempting to change their stand when faced with public backlash.
They pointed out that when film personalities met the then chief minister, he welcomed them warmly and treated them with utmost respect.
“Even Chiranjeevi himself had acknowledged this earlier. Yet Kamineni Srinivas had chosen to misrepresent facts to malign Jagan Mohan Reddy,” they stated.
