Today's India: Infrastructure Boom, Innovation Doom?

What development is happening in India at present? By observing, we understand that building cricket stadiums in different cities, airports, railway stations, and national highways are taking place.

Well, the BCCI has huge funds, and so it is expanding stadiums. The nation is keen on infrastructure updates to match developed countries, which is a welcome initiative.

But what’s concerning is what India is producing for the world. The irony is that companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro, after all these years, haven’t been able to create something globally impactful, like Microsoft or Google. These companies are primarily focused on providing manpower, rather than producing innovative products.

Now, with the rise of AI, the need for manpower is drastically decreasing, and its effects will be seen soon. The shift is already happening. What Piyush Goyal said recently about startups may be debatable, but if he had spoken about these big companies, it would have certainly been true. India needs to focus on manufacturing products and selling them to the world. Our manpower should be used for innovation. Startups focused on innovation should be encouraged robustly.

In this scenario, the government giving away acres of land to IT companies seems meaningless. Already, several engineers are without jobs, and companies are not recruiting much. The era of traditional engineering jobs is over. The nation has to embrace unconventional solutions to navigate the changed landscape.
