Buzz: Big Director Cost Shock Stuns Producer

Renowned Tamil director A R Murugadoss has reportedly landed in controversy following a complaint from the producer of his upcoming film Madharaasi.

The issue is said to revolve around the film’s sharp budget escalation, which has now become a hot topic in industry circles.

According to reports, Murugadoss had initially projected the film’s budget at around ₹115 crore. However, as the project neared completion, the total cost is said to have shot up to nearly ₹170 crore.

The producer has reportedly blamed the unexpected rise on poor planning and also on the director allegedly handling another film, Sikandar, at the same time. Readmore!

Upset over the sudden financial burden, the producer is believed to have approached the Directors’ and Producers’ Council, reportedly seeking ₹10 crore in compensation.

The matter was later taken up for discussion, and both sides were reportedly called in to work out an amicable solution.

After discussions, a compromise is said to have been reached.

As part of the settlement, Murugadoss has reportedly agreed to write and provide the story for Ramana 2 (Telugu version) free of cost to the same production house.

This arrangement is being seen as a way to compensate for the financial strain caused by the budget overshoot.

Murugadoss has long enjoyed a strong following among Telugu audiences as well.

His dubbed film Ghajini, starring Suriya, was a massive blockbuster in Telugu. He later directed Chiranjeevi in Stalin and Mahesh Babu in Spyder, further strengthening his presence in Telugu cinema.

For now, while the issue appears to have been settled, the controversy has certainly put Madharaasi in the spotlight for reasons beyond the film itself.
